"This is a further boost to a very successful first year of operation", said Signum's Managing Director Graham Shaw. "The company is going from strength to strength."
Colin Davison, Managing Director of Gloucestershire newspapers, who organised the event, congratulated Signum and said: "This is the first time that we have run the awards which will become an annual event. We set them up because we wanted to celebrate the excellence of business life in Gloucestershire. It is an attractive business environment, and one which encourages considerable inward investment, not always recognised by the community at large.
"I am delighted that Signum won the award, they are a great example of a new company bringing innovation to a marketplace which is set to grow and grow."
Signum Technologies, based in Cheltenham, has developed two unique software-based technologies called SureSign and VeriData. SureSign embeds invisible data to identify and authenticate digital files such as still photos, audio recordings and video film. It has recently been employed by one of the worlds largest news agencies, Agence France Presse, to protect its images against illegal use and theft.
Signum is now working with a number of police forces on the use of VeriData to make digital pictures admissible as evidence in court.
"The problem with all digital files," said Shaw, is that they can be copied perfectly and then nobody knows who has the original. Our software protects the integrity of the original digital images. The technology works just as well on audio and video files and we are developing products for these areas."
