What is Digital Watermarking?

Watermarking is the science of adding 'hidden' information to a digital object such as an image, map, video film or audio recording for the purpose of identifying, tracking or authenticating the carrier material in a variety of applications.

Signum Technologies uses the term digital watermarking to describe its system but the underlying technology is also known as digital steganography, hidden watermarking and data hiding.

Signum Technologies has developed a range of software tools to embed, detect and read watermarks without compromising the information content of the carrier object. Signum's watermark is designed to be completely transparent and imperceptible to the unaided eye or ear. In normal circumstances, it is only detectable and decipherable by either public or private access detection software and does not require the original object to do so.

By using precisely controlled and highly secure permutation methods, Signum's watermarking solutions are robust, secure and flexible and can be tailored to meet the stringent demands of a diverse range of applications.
